Sweet Pea entered our lives only a month after Tracy and I had met. Tracy had been searching for a new puppy as a fitness companion (specifically a blue heeler, I believe), but ended up walking down a different road of puppydom after hearing about Sweet Pea’s plight. Sweet Pea was actually the product of a Chihuahua breeder who sold his product for a hefty price; however, some Chihuahuas are born with less than favorable attributes in the eyes of the Chihuahua “collectors.” In particular, Sweet Pea actually has a grey fur coat which is apparently not something that many “collectors” find appealing. After hearing that Pea was scheduled for drowning by the breeder, Tracy swooped in and rescued Pea for a nominal fee (of course) and brought her home to be with us.
As it turns out, Sweet Pea actually turned out to be quite the fitness companion after all. One particular trip I recall was a day long hike at Enchanted Rock outside of Fredricksburg, TX. Sweet Pea not only scaled and climbed three 200 ft. granite domes, she actually led the way and forced us to try and keep up! All in all, Pea has been quite the blessing in our family. Even with the list of items that have been forever removed from our possession (thanks, Pea). We love having her as a part of our family and wouldn’t settle for any less.
