The ugly puppy…

The youngest member of our family came from the San Antonio Animal Care Services shelter when she was only around 5-6 weeks old. Whiskey was locked up in a small kennel with her brothers and sister awaiting the arrival of her new family. We had made two trips to the shelter with the intention of adopting a cat; however, the only cats that the shelter was holding at the time were feral and not up for adoption. During the second trip, we decided that we couldn’t leave the shelter without rescuing some poor soul, and that’s when we came across this small litter of pups. Of the 4 puppies, Whiskey was definitely the most scraggily looking of the bunch, so we decided that she would probably be the best choice for us as she was the least likely to be adopted quickly.

A hand full of love…and patience…

Whiskey has proven herself to be an incredibly intelligent dog, but she has also proven herself to be quite the free spirit. We found out from the shelter that her and her siblings had been abused by small children before they were picked up, so we definitely had our hands full attempting to help Whiskey overcome the abusive experience and become a friendlier and more socialized dog. I am happy to report that Whiskey has been nothing short of amazing and turned out to be an absolutely beautiful dog. She has most definitely come a long way since we brought her home. She loves the beach, loves walks, and definitely loves her older sister, Sweet Pea. She has been an incredible addition to our family and has helped to bring us all just a little bit closer.
